If you cannot pay due to being affected by COVID19, what are your options for rent and mortgage forbearance?
Contact your landlord right away if you are impacted. There are no evictions - the landlord courts aren't even open.
That doesn't mean you don't owe the money. Your rent debt keeps adding up and it WILL come due. Once the courts open, you will be held accountable for all the overdue payments, just like the landlord will have to pay their mortgage.
This forbearance is your last resort because the future payments could be even more crippling. Keep up if you can.
Landlords and Homeowners:
There is no forgiveness, only forbearance - meaning you are only postponing the payment. Overdue payments add up to be paid in the future and must be agreed upon by your lender in a forbearance agreement - in advance.
See who is backing your loan. Is is Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae? both have lookup tools at the below links as well as steps to take if you cannot pay.
If Fannie Mae owns your mortgage https://www.knowyouroptions.com/covid19assistance
If Freddie Mac owns your mortgage https://myhome.freddiemac.com/own/getting-help-disaster.html
Of course, you can contact your lender directly - visit their web site - phone call wait times are too long.
Stay safe and Well!
